De Mistura, Iran envoy meet ahead of Astana meeting
EghtesadOnline: UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura and Iranian deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaber Ansari met Sunday night in Astana ahead of the upcoming Syrian talks.
During the meeting Jaber Ansari pointed to the efforts and negotiations of Iranian, Russian and Turkish delegations aimed at the success of Astana meeting and the necessity of the active role of United Nations in facilitating intra-Syrian talks, ISNA reported.
“Trilateral meeting of Iran, Russia and Turkey is not an alternative for International Syria Support Group,” he said.
De Mistura in his part underlined the readiness of UN in facilitating intra-Syrian talks in Astana meeting.
He hoped the meeting can maintain the cease-fire and pave the way for solve the Syrian crisis.
