EghtesadOnline: A senior member of parliament Qassem Jasemi on Friday brushed off the UAE's 'escape forward' claims that arms were sent to Yemen from Iran and said the UAE lies will not cover up Saudi crimes in Yemen.

Jasemi, a member of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, made the remarks in response to recent claims by the UAE that arms were sent to Yemen from Iran, according to IRNA.

In a letter on Wednesday to the UN Security Council, the UAE UN envoy accused Iran of sending weapons to Yemen, which he said runs counter to the UN Security Council resolutions.

“Such claims cannot divert public attention from military aggression on Yemen,” the lawmaker said.

The Persian Gulf Arab littoral states were the main buyers of weapons from Obama administration during his eight years in office, Jasemi said, adding that statistics suggest that the US sales of weapons to Arab regional countries have doubled compared to those during Bush administration.

He said that the US likes regional countries to be busy fighting each other so that it can earn revenues on the one hand and depict itself as a mediator on the other hand.
