EghtesadOnline: Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said Iran feels duty-bound to stand against oppression and oppressors based on religious teachings and will, therefore, refuse to yield to pressure from the United States and other enemies.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of Imam Hossein (PBUH) University cadets, he quoted Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as saying that Muslims are tasked with withstanding oppression, his website reported.
"Whoever sees a tyrannical ruler and does not rise up with words or action against it, God will bring upon them the [ill] fate of the same tyrannical ruler and send them to hell," he said.
Ayatollah Khamenei pointed out that Imam Hussein (PBUH), the third Shia Imam, acted on the same doctrine in his uprising in the Battle of Karbala, Financial Tribune reported.
The US and the Zionist regime are, according to the Leader, powers oppressing other nations today by warmongering and other means of pressure.
"Based on the philosophy of Imam Hussein's [PBUH] uprising, the Iranian nation feels obligated to resist them, and the refusal to yield to the US and various pressures of enemies is along this line," he said.
The US has been imposing sanctions and pressure against the Islamic Republic since its establishment. It agreed to the lifting of sanctions after the 2015 nuclear deal was signed with the six powers, but withdrew from the accord last year and resumed the pressure as part of a campaign to push Iran toward further concessions on its defensive power.
The Leader praised the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps “whose dignity has enhanced both inside and outside the country”.
"Americans’ hostile approach to IRGC has increased its greatness," he said, referring to the US designation of IRGC as a terrorist group.
Ayatollah Khamenei quoted a verse of the Holy Qur’an, saying it should be a lesson for the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps: "Mobilize your [defensive] force as much as you can to frighten the enemies of God and your own enemies."
The Leader explained that the fear mentioned by God is a deterrence aimed at discouraging enemies from invading a country.
