EghtesadOnline: In separate decrees on Monday, Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei appointed three senior clerics as Islamic jurists to the Guardians Council.

The top vetting body is charged with interpreting Iran’s Constitution, vetting candidates for and supervising Experts Assembly, presidential and parliamentary elections, and verifying the compatibility of the laws passed by the Majlis with Sharia and the constitution.

The 12-member council comprises an equal number of Islamic jurisprudents and jurists.

The Leader extended the appointment of Ayatollah Mohammad Yazdi and Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani, who both formerly served as judiciary chiefs after the expiry of their terms, and named Hojjatoleslam Alireza A’rafi as a new member of the council to replace Ayatollah Mohammad Momen, who passed away last February, Financial Tribune reported.
