EghtesadOnline: Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi on Tuesday dismissed Canada court’s recognition of American court's judgment in absentia and said such lawsuits run counter to current international norms.

Qasemi said, “Principally issuance of a ruling against a foreign government runs counter to the principle of governments’ equality and is in violation of their immunity in international law.”

According to IRNA, he said the Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the right of opposition and following up the ruling.

Qasemi went on to say, “Evidently, irrespective of power divisions in Canada, the government of the country will be directly accountable to any likely financial and spiritual damage as a result of such anti-international law moves by various sections of Canada’s sovereignty.”
