EghtesadOnline: In a reaction to reports indicating an Iranian fisherman was shot and killed Saturday by the Saudi coastguard, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi stressed the issue is being considered.

Expressing sympathy for the saddening event, Ghasemi said: “the issue is being considered and when the authorities to determine the facts, the incident will be pursued in an appropriate and solemn way”.

“We are waiting for the conclusions of the investigations in this ground,” ISNA quoted him as saying.

“Two fishing boats were in the Persian Gulf and strayed due to high waves. The Saudi coastguard says the boats entered Saudi waters and killed one of the fishermen,” Majid Aghababaie, head of border affairs at the interior ministry, said in a statement.

He said it was not clear if the fishing boats had strayed into Saudi waters and that Iranian authorities were trying to determine the facts.

“Even if the boats had entered Saudi waters, the coastguard were not authorized to open fire,” Aghababaie added.
