EghtesadOnline: Managing Director of Tehran Waste Management Organization (TWMO) said the Iranian capital is to host the 1st World Conference of Mayors and Councilors slated for July 20-21.

Hossein Jafari said about 1,800 members of city councils in Iran and mayors from different world countries will attend the event.

Some participating countries include Germany, France, Australia, South Korea, Belgium and Czech.

Also, over 100 think tanks and international investors from UK, US, Italy, and Switzerland are to take part in Tehran conference, Jafari said.

Through scientific studies and new technologies, the waste will be recycled, said the official, adding that recycling will bring high income to country's municipalities and its economy as well.

Waste management is as an important environmental issue, IRNA quoted him as saying.

Then, he described waste as a hidden asset.

Jafari hoped the World Conference of Mayors and Councilors will help the officials at city councils and municipalities to develop ways to manage the cities and the waste.
