EghtesadOnline: Pakistan and Afghanistan have reopened border crossing point in Chaman area of Balochistan, called 'Friendship Gate' today after two weeks of closure.

According to Pakistani sources, Pakistan had closed the border crossing after a group of Afghan demonstrators attacked the Friendship Gate at Chaman and set the Pakistani flag on fire on 18 August.

Pakistan decided to open the crossing point after written apology submitted by Afghan authorities at a meeting with Pakistani officials on Chaman border, Pakistani sources said.

According to IRNA, the two sides also agreed to improve cooperation and coordination between border guards in order to avoid untoward incidents in the future.

Due to the closure, hundreds of Nato containers and other vehicles carrying trade goods had lined up on the two sides of the border crossing, unable to cross it. Similarly thousands of people had also been stranded.

Every day between 10,000 and 15,000 Pakistani and Afghan traders cross into Chaman and Vesh Mandi in connection with their business in the border towns.
