EghtesadOnline: President Vladimir Putin described Iran as Russia’s strategic partner, and said that the two countries are very much interested in boosting the level of their economic and trade cooperation.

“Tehran is Moscow’s strategic partner and we are assured that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) will change the situation in the interest of the two countries,” President Putin said.

He underlined that reducing tensions concerning Iran’s nuclear issues after signing of the nuclear agreement will benefit both countries and in the first phase the two countries are interested in mutual cooperation in the economic and trade fields, reports ILNA.

“During my visit to Tehran on November 23, 2015 I met Iran’s Supreme Leader (Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei) and the Iranian President (Hassan Rouhani) where I was assured that Iran has boosting cooperation and convergence on its agenda,” President Putin added.

The Russian president reiterated that in view of the two countries’ efforts the volume of trade transactions between the two countries in the first five months of 2016 reached $855 million showing a 70 percent growth as compared with the last year’s corresponding period.

“The cooperation between Tehran and Moscow in some area has strategic nature; this is firstly related to nuclear technology for peaceful purposes because Bushehr nuclear power plant was built on the basis of Russian technology and construction of eight other blocs of nuclear power plants have also been agreed upon by the two sides,” he added.
