Covid-19 Cases Decline for 3rd Straight Day
EghtesadOnline: Iran’s daily coronavirus caseload dropped for the third consecutive day on Saturday, with 2,028 new infections, down by 178 compared to a day earlier.
“The newly identified cases, only 34% of whom required hospitalization, pushed the nationwide tally to 356,792,” Health Ministry’s Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari was quoted as saying by ISNA.
Within a 24-hour period, 126 more lost their lives to the respiratory illness, taking the national death toll to 20,502, she added.
Over 307,000 have recovered from the viral infection and 3,850 are in critical condition.
The health official said Iran has administered 3.01 million diagnostic tests to detect Covid-19 cases.
According to Ali Akbar Haqdoust, the head of the Epidemiology Committee at the coronavirus taskforce, most Iranian provinces have passed the peak of the second wave of infections.
In Saturday’s taskforce session, President Hassan Rouhani said, “The coronavirus became more aggressive during the second wave, spread in more provinces and killed more young people between the ages of 30 to 40, compared to the first wave.”
