EghtesadOnline: Iran has placed an order to import 60,000 tons of alfalfa seeds from Russia, according to the head of the board of directors at the National Livestock Farmers Union.
“We expect the first batch of around 30,000 tons to arrive within the next 12 days. The remaining consignment will be imported gradually after the first batch,” Farhad Akbari was also quoted as saying by ILNA.
The official noted that due to drought conditions in Iran, there is a shortage of different kinds of fodder, adding that such imports will continue until domestic need is satisfied.
Drought is said to have inflicted upwards of 670 trillion rials ($2.4 billion) in losses on Iran’s agriculture sector since the beginning of the current crop year (September 2020).
