EghtesadOnline: Seven spring fairs will be held in Tehran from March 4-14, says deputy governor of Tehran for economic affairs coordination.
According to Mohammad Emami Amin, the fairs will offer essential goods (mainly food products) at discounts, including rice, sugar, oil, pasta, tomato paste, red meat, chicken, eggs, milk, butter and yogurt, as well as chocolates, nuts, bags, shoes, apparel and detergents, Financial Tribune reported.
Auto tires and engine oils will also be sold at the events.
Notably, officials have said that no foreign products will be sold at the fairs.
One of the fairs will be exclusively dedicated to products produced by female heads of household or companies with female heads of household and will be held at Goftogou Park in Nasr neighborhood of the capital city, reported IRNA.
The other fairs will be held at Imam Khomeini Mosalla, Velayat Park, Hakimieh Park, Eram Park, Khavaran Cultural Center and Shahr-e-Aftab.
The events are organized for directly supplying locally produced goods at cheap prices to the public in the runup to the Norouz (the new Iranian year) holidays (March 20-April 1).
Similar fairs will be held in other cities across the country.
The ongoing Iranian year, which will come to an end on March 19, has seen inflation of consumer prices skyrocket, diminishing people's purchasing power at a pace unprecedented in recent years.
The direct supply of goods from producers to consumers at spring fairs seeks to provide a respite for the less privileged.
Latest data provided by the Statistical Center of Iran show Consumer Price Index of food and beverages group in the 12-month period ending Jan. 20 increased by 52.4% compared with last year’s corresponding period.
