EghtesadOnline: A new terminal at Ardabil Airport, located in the northwestern Ardabil Province, was inaugurated on Wednesday morning in the presence of President Hassan Rouhani and Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami.
The new terminal, with an area of 8,100 square meters, has been established with an investment of 600 billion rials ($4.63 million). It has the capacity to operate three flights simultaneously, the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development's news service reported.
The new terminal operates both domestic and international flights. With the launch of this terminal, Ardabil Airport’s passenger capacity has increased by 300%, going up from 520,000 passengers to 2,080,000 passengers per year, according to Financial Tribune.
The terminal’s expansion started in the fiscal 2012-13.
The airport operates an average of four flights daily to Tehran, Mashhad and the shrines of six Shia Imams in the four cities of Iraq, namely Najaf, Karbala, Kadhimiya and Samarra.
