EghtesadOnline: Iranian miners paid 7.19 trillion rials ($63.4 million) in mining royalties to the government during the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Aug. 22).

The volume indicates an 81.9% increase compared with last year’s corresponding period.

According to Minister of Industries, Mining and Trade Reza Rahmani, close to 500 million tons of minerals were extracted in Iran during the last Iranian year (March 2018-19), IRNA reported.

Nearly 138,000 people are currently working in Iran’s 5,800 active mines, according to Financial Tribune.

Iran is home to 68 types of minerals with more than 60 billion tons of potential reserves, of which 40 billion tons are proven reserves. 

The country is ranked 15th in the world in terms of mineral reserves, while the country is at 10th place globally for possessing 68 types of  minerals.
