EghtesadOnline: Iranian miners paid 51.47 trillion rials ($447.56 million) in mining royalties to the government during the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 21-July 21).

The volume indicates a 128.5% increase compared with last year’s corresponding period, Fars News Agency reported.

Miners in Khorasan Razavi Province made the largest contribution worth 1.94 trillion rials ($16.91 million), followed by those in Kerman Province with 720.79 billion rials ($6.26 million) and East Azarbaijan with 643.07 billion rials ($5.59 million).

Nearly 138,000 people are working in Iran’s 5,800 active mines, according to Financial Tribune.

The country is home to 68 types of minerals with more than 60 billion tons of potential reserves, of which 40 billion tons are proven reserves.
