EghtesadOnline: The percentage of healthcare spending accounted for 10.6% of the total household expenditure in urban areas and 10.3% in rural areas in the last fiscal year (March 2017-18).

The Persian daily Donya-e-Eqtesad reported the figures, citing the data released by the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare's Center of Statistics. 

Health expenditure is divided into two categories of “health and treatment” and “insurance”. 

For urban households with an average of 3.6 members, the shares of “health and treatment spending” and “insurance spending” stood at 7.2% and 3.4% last year, respectively, according to Financial Tribune.

The overall expenses of an urban household last year hovered around 390 million rials ($3,451), indicating a 15.7% rise compared with the year before. The average health expenditure last year was around 35 million rials (about $309), of which 24 million rials ($212) were spent on “health and treatment” and 11 million rials ($97) went toward insurance payment. 

For rural households of an average of 3.6 members, the shares of “health and treatment spending” and “insurance spending” stood at 7.6% and 2.7% for rural households last year.  

The overall expenses of a rural household last year hovered around 180 million rials ($1,592), registering a 13.9% rise compared with the year before. 

The average health expenditure of rural households last year was around 18 million rials (about $159), of which 13.6 million rials (about $120) went toward “health and treatment” and 4.8 million rials (about $42) constituted insurance payment.
