EghtesadOnline: More than 209,650 tons of banana worth over $200 million were imported into Iran during the first five months of the current fiscal year (March 21-Aug. 22).
This shows a 28.49% and 11.41% decline in weight and value respectively compared with the similar period of last year, latest figures released by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration show.
This amount of banana imports accounted for 1.5% and 1.06% of the volume and value of Iran’s total imports during the period under review, Mehr News Agency reported.
Last year, about $544 million worth of banana were imported into Iran, according to Financial Tribune.
Though the Iranian fruit market is replete with all types of imported products, officially only the import of five types of fruit, namely coconut, pineapple, mango, papaya and banana, are allowed.
