EghtesadOnline: Imam Khomeini Port in the southern Khuzestan Province accounts for 70% of Iran’s imports of essential goods.

According to Adel Deris, the director general of Khuzestan Ports and Maritime Organization, the imported essential goods mainly include wheat, corn, soybeans, barley, rice, sugar and vegetable oils, the news portal of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development reported. The official said more than 5 million tons of such goods were imported into Imam Khomeini Special Economic Zone during the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Aug. 22), registering a 6% increase compared with the similar period of last year. Also known as necessary goods, essential goods are products and services consumers will buy regardless of changes in income levels, Financial Tribune reported.
