EghtesadOnline: The Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran has announced its readiness to open technical cooperation offices of the International Maritime Organization in West Asia.

Managing Director of Iran Ports and Maritime Organization Mohammad Rastad made the announcement while addressing the World Maritime Day Parallel Event 2018 in Szczecin, Poland, Fars News Agency reported.

He lauded IMO’s plans to reduce greenhouses gases and sulfur emissions by vessels.

Rastad held talks with IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim, ministers and heads of maritime organizations of China, Singapore, South Korea, Portugal and Poland on the sidelines of the meeting, Financial Tribune reported.

The event was held with the participation of over 40 IMO member states on June 13-15. IMO is an international governing body of the maritime industry. It is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for improving the safety and security of international shipping and preventing marine pollution by ships.
