EghtesadOnline: Iranian automotive firm Arian Khodro Pars has brought several units of Geely cars into the country to be tested by Institute of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran and the Ministry of Industries so as to obtain clearance for mass imports.
The first Geely units are expected to enter the Iranian auto market by the coming summer, Radin Peymanfar, Arian Khodro's director, told Mehr News Agency.
During the closing days of the last Iranian year which ended in March, Arian Khodro signed a contract with the Chinese automaker over imports of Geely cars into Iran.
According to local auto blog Asbe Bokhar, the imported vehicles are set to undergo technical inspections in order to obtain the required permits for mass imports, Financial Tribune reported.
For the time being, temporary license plates are to be installed on the units which have been brought into the country.
Arian Khodro is currently applying for import permits for Geely NL-3 and Emgrand GT, with the former being one of the most popular crossover vehicles in the Chinese market.
It is noteworthy that the specifications of the models quite match that of other Chinese cars available in Iran, leaving the undisclosed pricing as a potential distinguishing factor.
Geely's NL-3 models, known as "Boyue" in the Chinese market, come with various options. The most prominent version has a 1.8L turbo-charged engine that produces 161 or 181 hp, with 250-285 Nm torques. A six-speed automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels.
Panoramic sunroof, leather seat cover, driver seat memory, rain-light sensor, parking sensor, automatic trunk opener, cruise control, push-button start, automatic dual zone climate control, six airbags, power parking brake and auto hold function are among the many comfort features offered by the Chinese crossover. Moreover, some versions have been released in the Middle East equipped with 2.4L engines.
Emgrand GT (GC9) is a semi-luxury sedan, sharing the same properties with that of NL-3. It is equipped with a 2.4L engine that generates160 hp with 210 Nm torques.
Arian Pars Khodro has not yet announced which versions of the two models are set to be brought into the country.
