EghtesadOnline: After 28 years, direct flights between Tehran and Belgrade will be launched as of early March.
Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made the announcement in a joint economic forum between Iranian and Serbian businesspeople held on Tuesday.
Ever since Serbia signed a visa liberalization agreement with Iran in August 2017, the number of Iranian nationals visiting the European country has been constantly going up, Financial Tribune reported.
According to the Serbian police, in the last five months, over 6,000 Iranians visited Serbia, Serbian Monitor reported.
In response to increased demand for Belgrade as a destination, two Iranian airlines, Iran Air and Qeshm Air, have announced direct flights from Tehran to Belgrade.
Once these flights commence, it has been estimated that 600 Iranian citizens will arrive in Belgrade every week, in view of the transport capacity of the planes.
Leading a political and economic delegation, Zarif started his tour of Balkan and Eastern European states on Monday. Following the Serbia visit, he arrived in Bulgaria late Tuesday. Croatia and Bosnia will be his third and fourth leg of the tour.
