EghtesadOnline: An official with the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare said workplace accidents in Iran have claimed the lives of 790 people so far in the current fiscal year (March 2017-18).
“Most of these fatalities were linked to falling objects, not following safety rules and falls from a high place (mostly at construction sites),” Mehr News Agency quoted Ahmad Moshirian as saying. According to Mohammad Bakhshi Mohebbi, deputy attorney general of Mashhad, a total of 812 workers died as a result of occupational accidents last year (March 206-17). More than 2.3 million workers die worldwide every year as a result of occupational accidents or work-related diseases, the International Labor Organization reported. ILO estimates that the annual cost to the global economy from accidents and work-related diseases alone is a staggering $3 trillion, according to Financial Tribune.
