EghtesadOnline: More than 27 million chickens have been culled since the recent outbreak of avian flu in Iran, chairman of the board of directors at Tehran’s Union of Producers of Egg-Laying Chicken, Nasser Nabipour, Mehr News Agency reported.

The outbreak of the H5N8 strain of avian flu, which started in late 2017, is said to have inflicted losses on Iranian poultry farms in the neighborhood of half a billion dollars so far.

Recently, the H5N6 strain of flu was also reported in northern Iran. Unlike H5N8, this strain is said to be contagious to human beings, according to Financial Tribune.
