EghtesadOnline: Deputy Minister of Industries, Mining and Trade Reza Rahmani said Iran is targeting the export of $600 million, $1.6 billion and $3 billion worth of home appliances in the current Iranian year (March 2017-18), 2020-21 and 2025-26 respectively.
Rahmani noted that the annual production of 16 million devices by March 2026 is also among the targets, adding that plans are underway to establish at least one global Iranian brand of home appliances, Mehr News Agency reported.
Referring specifically to refrigerator production, he said goals have been set to produce 2.7 million refrigerators by the yearend, around 3.2 million in 2020-21 and nearly 4 million in 2025-26.
“There are 1,000 licensed household appliance production units in Iran and the nominal production capacity of energy-consuming home appliances stands at 18 million units per year,” director general of Metal Products and Home Appliances Department at the Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade has told Financial Tribune.
Abbas Hashemi, citing statistics from the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration, put Iran’s home appliance imports at $272 million during the four months to July 22. Last year’s imports stood at $722 million.
Iran exported $123.3 million worth of home appliances during the four months to July 22, mainly to Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, the UAE, Syria and Italy.
Evaporative coolers, cooling devices, refrigerators and gas appliances are among major products exported from Iran.
Last year’s exports stood at $245 million.
China, the UAE, South Korea, Turkey, Thailand, Italy and Germany are major exporters of home appliances to Iran. The main appliances imported into Iran include split air conditioners, refrigerators and small appliances.
