EghtesadOnline: In line with Central Bank of Iran’s policy of ditching the US dollar in favor of the euro, Iran’s ambassador to Colombo has called on Sri Lankan banks to trade with Iran in the European Union’s single currency.

“Iran is trading with the EU and many other countries in euro and there have been no issues with that,” Mohammad Zaeri Amirani was also quoted as saying by Island, an online newspaper. The ambassador, who made the statements on Wednesday while speaking at the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka, referred to trading in euro as a good solution for establishing Iran-Sri Lanka banking ties that are currently non-existent, especially in light of foreign lenders’ fears of US penalties, Financial Tribune reported.
