EghtesadOnline: An Iranian railways delegation in Islamabad urged Pakistan to give extra attention to Quetta-Taftan railway line which is an important section of Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul(ITI) Container Train Corridor project.
According to a press release issued by Press Information Department, the Iranian delegation led by Director General South East Railway Company, Majid Arjooni made the remarks during a meeting with Pakistan Secretary of Railways, Parveen Agha in Islamabad.
“This section must be given extra attention by Pakistan. It should be given priority in CPEC (China Pakistan Economic Corridor). All technical and mechanical issues of this section must be resolved as soon as possible,” said the Iranian side.
According to IRNA, Iran has also reduced the transshipment cost for ITI Container Train at Zahedan station (Iran) .The proposed reduced costs of loaded container makes up 30 Euros and 10 Euros for empty container.
Quetta-Zahedan section is still operational, though barely. It is considered among the great Railways of the world because of its desert scenery which is unique for this part of Pakistan.
There are only 14 Railway Stations in the last 553 km section of the track. The total length of track from Quetta to Zahedan is 732 km with the last 100 km section being inside Iran.
The Iranian delegation visited Pakistan to take part in the 9th high level Working Group meeting of ECO Container Train on Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul route.
