EghtesadOnline: Iran's information and communications technology sector has the capacity to employ one million people, an official with the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare said.
"It is estimated that at present 600,000 people are employed in this sector. The plan is to generate between 100,000 and 120,000 jobs in the current Iranian year (started March 21)," Mohammad Abdoh Abtahi was also quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency. The official noted that 60,000 to 70,000 of the jobs planned to be created this year will be in the area of information technology alone, which includes software, content and game production as well as startups. "Iran's computer game market is valued at 8 trillion rials (about $214 million). Only between 8% and 10% of the domestic market demand is supplied by Iranian games and the rest is held by foreigners," Financial Tribune quoted him as saying.
