EghtesadOnline: There are no cars that could replace SAIPA’s Pride or Iran Khodro’s Peugeot 405, says a deputy at the Iran Standard and Quality Inspection Company (ISQI).

This is mainly due to the fact that there are no cars which fall in the same price range—between $5,000-$7,500, ISNA quoted Saeid Tajik as saying. He said for now there are no plans to stop the production of the two models. While the two cars are notorious for low quality, the official said that production will continue since they have the bare minimum needed, such as airbags and anti-lock breaking system. Legally, production of cars which have been manufactured for over ten years in Iran should stop, but companies dodge the barely upheld rules citing that the cars are road worthy. The government has yet to make a reciprocal move in response to the carmakers refusal to retire such models, Financial Tribune reported.
