EghtesadOnline: Researchers in Tehran's Tarbiat Modares University have succeeded to develop laboratory scaffolds primarily used in long-term stem cells cultivation.
The scaffolds are made of polypeptides and play a vital role in tissue engineering and repairing damaged tissue.
Systems are designed and created, in biomimetic science, by modeling natural samples and getting inspired by their features which can imitate their models perfectly. Biomimetic scaffold is an imitation of extracellular matrix (ECM) structure and its characteristics, according to IRNA.
“Long-term stem cells laboratory cultivation accompanies some problems including losing unique and basic features of cells while the procees is carried out. Due to this, achieving a known cultivation system, suitable for long-term cultivation with conserving basic characteristics, will be so effective in the realm of cell therapy and tissue engineering,” says Rezvan Mobbaseri, one of the researchers.
According to Mobbaseri, one of the goals studied in this research is to control over cell fate and its behavior as well as desired processes including suitable junction and an increase of cell growth over created scaffolds.
The research has been conducted by Rezvan Mobbaseri, a PhD graduate in Nanobiotechnology from Tarbai Modares University, Hossein Naderimanesh, PhD, and Masoud Soleimani, PhD who both are faculty members of this university.
The result of this research has been published in Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications Journal.
