EghtesadOnline: General designate António Guterres on Friday underlined Iran's key role in the Middle East region and globally.
Guterres made the remarks during a meeting in New York with Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations Gholamali Khoshroo.
According to ILNA, Guterres will replace Ban Ki-moon as new UN secretary-general as of the beginning of 2017.
Guterres, the UN's former refugee chief, hailed Iran's supportive measures for refugees.
He said that his main agenda as the new UN chief will be finding settlements to regional and international crises in a useful and unbiased manner so as to alleviate the sufferings of human beings.
The Iranian envoy, for his part, said that the impartial, honest and humane stands of the new UN secretary-general will undoubtedly help him in fulfillment of his duties in front of the international community.
Khoshroo promised that that the Islamic Republic of Iran will spare no effort to cooperate with the United Nations in promotion of peace and stability in the region.
Referring to the US efforts to extend Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) which Iran believes are in contradiction with a nuclear deal signed with Iran last year – known as JCPOA – Khoshroo said that the JCPOA is the outcome of long and extensive negotiation with permanent members of UN Security Council which has to be safeguarded not only by all the negotiating parties, but also by all the UN member states.
He called on Guterres to urge all the parties involved in Iran nuclear deal to remain committed to their promises.
