EghtesadOnline: A senior Iranian commander welcomed presence of the Italian Navy frigate in the port city of Bandar Abbas in Southern Iran, it was announced on Tuesday.
In a dinner banquet attended by commander and crew of the Italian warship named Euro, Commander of Iran’s First Naval Zone Admiral Hossein Azad expressed hope that more Italian warships would visit Iran in near future, according to IRNA.
Touching upon Iran-Italy centuries-old relations, he added Italy, as a hub of the Christian world, and Iran, as a pioneering Islamic country, could expand their mutual relations in all arenas.
He also called for expansion of Iran-Italy navy cooperation.

The arrival of the warship takes place in line with the two countries’ plan to boost friendly military relations.
Meanwhile, Navy Commander Rear-Admiral Habibollah Sayyari has announced recently that several Iranian destroyers may visit Italian ports in near future.
Sayyari said that the 43th flotilla of the Iranian Navy is present in the Gulf of Aden to safeguard naval routes for vessels operating in the region.
