EghtesadOnline: Iranian Red Crescent Society is capable of rendering humanitarian operations to the regional states with around 2 million volunteers and 700,000 young relief aid workers. IRCS president Amir Mohsen Ziaei said on Monday.

Ziaei made the remarks in a meeting with the UN under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Stephen O'Brien.

He said that the red crescent society of Iran is active in sanitation, public education, prevention of damages in natural disasters, reports IRNA.

He said that the society is offering sanitation and environmental services at the regional and international level.

Considering leadership role of the UN in humanitarian aids, Ziaei underlined that the Middle East region is facing with many challenges such as the climate change, emigration, terrorism, requiring the UN to offer better services to the displaced people in the region.

Stephen O'Brien talked about plenty of challenges in addition to natural disasters and said that we should work in the field of increasing tolerance of the people in face of natural disasters.

He said that the Iranian society has had very good cooperation with the UN in different sectors and we hope the cooperation would be expanded.

Inflaming war in different countries like Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Libya and Lebanon forced the UN to ask for help from other humanitarian organizations like RCSI and that we know the society is very strong and had very good cooperation at international level and had offered necessary assistances to Yemen and Iraq.

O'Brien underlined that humanitarian situation in Yemen is very serious and that the Iranian Red Crescent Society sent humanitarian aids several times to Yemen, so considering the situation, the UN is willing to offer relief aids to Yemen in cooperation with Iranian organization.
