EghtesadOnline: Minister of Energy Hamid Chitchian on Sunday reaffirmed commitment to approvals of Paris Climate Change Conference, saying that Iran observes the need to reduce greenhouse gases in planning for water and electricity industry.

Chitchian made the remarks in a meeting with French Minister of Environment Mrs. Segolene Royal.

Chitchian and the French minister reviewed the grounds for Iranian cooperation with France on energy projects, according to IRNA.

Chitchian explained capabilities and capacities of Iran in water and electricity areas, saying that Iran has more than 75,000 megawatts power plant capacities, from which around 12,000 megawatts come from hydro-electric power plants and renewable energies, 1,000 megawatts from nuclear energy and the rest comes from thermal power plants.

Upon planning, Iran is to produce 7,500 megawatts renewable energy until the year 2030.

Chitchian said that Iran is due to generate 5,000 megawatts electricity in the next five years and it would be one area for cooperation between Tehran and Paris.

He said that Iran has signed a contract to build a geo-thermal power plant with capacity of five megawatts and is ready to cooperate with France as well.

The Iranian minister added that Tehran Water and Wastewater Company have signed contracts with the French and Swedish companies to manage water consumption.

He underlined that one of obstacles and problems on the way of cooperation with the European countries, including France, is the banking ties.

Chitchian expressed hope that the banking bottlenecks would be removed to expand cooperation between Tehran and Paris in the field of energy.

Iran's commitment to decrease production of green house gases on the earth according to Paris International Environment Conference known as ' COP 21' has caused to put development of renewable energies on agenda of its sixth economic, social and cultural development plan.
