EghtesadOnline: A member of Karaj City Council has reported a concrete progress in the development of Metro lines in Alborz Province’s capital Karaj.

“In contrast with other Iranian metropolises, the Karaj Metro project had remained stagnant over the last decade; however, the fifth city council has stimulated considerable progress by increasing the workforce, machinery and the budget,” councilor Mohammad Hossein Khalili Ardakani was quoted as saying by ISNA.

Shedding light on the latest status of the subway project, Ardakani pointed that a mere 100 people used to work on the underground line, but the number has now peaked to above 600.

As for the budget, 450 billion rials ($10.7 million) were formerly dedicated to the Karaj Metro, presently the number has been increased to 10,000 billion rials ($238 million), Financial Tribune quoted him as saying.

“Since October 2017, more than 600,000 hours of professional work have been put into this project, and the previous 81 operating machines have reached 500 units,” said Khalili Ardakani.

Karaj’s subway system is to connect with a currently operating Line 5 which runs from Tehran to Karaj. Colored green on maps, Line 5 is 43-kilometer long including eleven stations, with Golshahr in Southwest of Karaj as the final station.

Connecting with the western end of Line 2 at Tehran (Sadeghiyeh) Station, Golshahr opened in 2004 as one of the main transport arteries of the capital as it linked Tehran to Karaj.
