EghtesadOnline: In spite of international restrictions on accessing cutting-edge technology, Jam Petrochemical Company has indigenized gear pumps and reduction gearboxes, a deputy manager at Jam Petrochemical Complex in the port city of Asalouyeh, Bushehr Province, said.
"The efficiency of pumps is as high as 95% and because of their tiny dimension, they are highly suitable for hydroelectric systems," Mohammad Mehdi Moqimi was also quoted as saying by NIPNA, the National Petrochemical Company's news agency.
According to the official, not only is mass production of the new pumps economically viable compared to imported ones, but they are also easier to maintain due to their simple design.
A gear pump extracts fluid by displacement. It is one of the most common types of pumps for hydraulic fluid power applications. A reduction gearbox helps lower an input speed with the same or higher output torque, Financial Tribune reported.
"The indigenized pump can transfer a constant amount of fluid for each revolution," he said, noting that the rigid design of the gears and houses allow for very high pressures and the ability to pump highly viscous fluids.
Moqimi noted that restricting equipment imports is high on the company's agenda, as looming US sanctions may pose new challenges for the firm. Jam Petrochemical Company owns some of the largest petrochemical facilities and it is one of the world's biggest producers of wide-ranging olefins.
JPC produces high-density polyethylene used in manufacturing PE100 pipes that possess higher durability and are used in oil, gas, water and wastewater networks.
The company plans to launch the first phase of its acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene plant by March next year with a total capacity of 200,000 tons annually. ABS is a hard, heat-resistant engineering plastic widely used in housing appliances, pipe fittings and automotive interior parts.
