EghtesadOnline: A total of 27,755 people were killed in road crashes in the fiscal 2005-6 whereas 15,932 road fatalities were reported in 2016-17, which suggests a significant decline of 42% over the past decade, the deputy health minister and spokesman of the Health Ministry said.

“This comes as from 2005-6 to 2017-18, the number of cars and monocycles increased by 166% and 187%, respectively,” Iraj Harirchi added.

The official also noted that there were 16,201 traffic fatalities last year (ended March 20, 2018), registering a 1.7% rise compared with the year before.

“There was one traffic death every 32 minutes in the country last year,” he was quoted as saying by the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development’s news outlet on Monday, Financial Tribune reported.
