EghtesadOnline: With around 1.3 million tons of barley purchases, Iran was ranked the third biggest importer of the product in 2017.
Tasnim News Agency reported the above, citing figures released by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
The biggest importer of barley last year was Saudi Arabia, with around 11 million tons. China with 4.6 million tons of imports ranks second.
Iran ranks sixth in corn and seventh in rice imports, according to Financial Tribune.
In 2017, 9.5 million tons of corn and 1.2 million tons of rice were imported into the country.
Iran is less dependent on wheat imports compared with the above-mentioned grains. About 1.2 million tons of wheat were imported into Iran over the period, making it the world’s 27th biggest importer of the crop.
