EghtesadOnline: More than 15,000 tons of shrimps worth over 2.21 trillion rials (close to $70 million) were exported to 10 countries in Europe and Asia during the last Iranian year that ended March 20, 2017, data released by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration show.
The main export destinations were Spain, France, Armenia, the UAE, Bahrain and Lebanon.
Some 21,400 tons of shrimp were produced in the country during the period, registering more than a 20% increase compared with the year before, Mizan Online reported. Shrimp culture in Iran is mainly practiced in the provinces of Khuzestan, Hormozgan, Sistan-Baluchestan, Bushehr in the south and Golestan in the north.
Secretary-General of Seafood Exporters Union Ali Akbar Khodaei expects shrimp production to increase by about 43% to reach more than 30,000 tons in the current Iranian year (started March 21). He also expects exports to reach 20,000 tons this year, according to Financial Tribune.
