EghtesadOnline: About $137 million worth of goods were exported from and $381 million were imported to the southern Kish Island in the last Iranian year that ended March 20, 2017, registering a 30.5% rise and 15.7% fall respectively compared with the previous year, the deputy head of Kish Free Zone Organization said.

“The main exported commodities were medical and pharmaceutical products, vessels, oil and gas engineering equipment and cosmetics. Imports included consumer products and excavation equipment as well as industrial raw material,” Ali Jirofti was also quoted as saying by IRNA. According to the official, oil and gas engineering services account for the biggest part (29%) of the island’s industrial activity. This is followed by production of cosmetics and toiletries (17%), medical and pharmaceutical products (13%), wood and cellulose industries (8%), logistics (8%), construction material (6%) and electronics (4%).

“At present, close to 427 industrial and production units are active in Kish, up from last year’s 397 units,” he said. Located in the Persian Gulf off the southern coast of Iran and part of Hormozgan Province, Kish enjoys free trade zone status, Financial Tibune reported.
